Forever On The Hips

Razzle Dazzle Pie Recipe
2 9-inch frozen deep dish pie crust (1 for the basket weave on top)
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups fresh strawberries
2 cups fresh raspberries or blackberries
1 1/2 cups fresh blueberries
Juice from 1 lemon
2 tablespoon butter
Sugar for sprinkling
  1. In a large mixing bowl, stir together sugar and flour. Add strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and lemon juice; gently toss until berries are coated. If using frozen fruit allow fruit mixture to stand for 15 to 30 minutes, or until fruit is partially thawed.
  2. Turn berry mixture into prepared pie shell; dot with the butter. Cover with top crust; trim edge to 1-inch, seal and crimp. Make several slits in top crust to allow steam to escape. Sprinkle top with sugar, if desired.
  3. Bake for 1 hour in 375*F (190*C) oven, or until crust is golden brown and the juice is bubbling through the slits in top crust. Cool on wire rack.

Makes 8 servings.

Notes: you can use frozen fruit, though I prefer fresh

I suggest putting the pie on top of a cookie sheet when in the oven *the pie juices tend to ooze out

You can use pretty much any combination of fruit you want (this is just a traditional Razzle Dazzle)

Soldiers

Today in class Carole showed us the rest of Dear America, a documentary on the soldiers in Vietnam. There was a part when a letter was being read and one of the lines was, "we (the soldiers) need love". That really killed me. It really brought the war going on right now into perspective. Even if I personally am against the war, I still need to support the men and women who risk their lives every day for my country. On the way home I turned on the radio and listened to what fucking garbage was coming out of the speakers. These goddamn pop stars are singing about dating and money and all this fucking shit while people are DYING. It actually made me sick. It also made me think about how fucking privileged I am. How fucking lucky I am that I'm not in a position where entering the army is my only option for education, and that my little brother (for now) doesn't have to deal with the fear of being drafted. The war is so incredibly overwhelming but that doesn't mean I should just sit around and cry about it. I need to take action. I need to thank these men and women who are sacrificing themselves for the betterment of my country. Oh my God, I couldn't take hearing the letter by the mother who lost her son in Vietnam. I need to do something....

B...B...B...BEYONCÉ

(Beyoncé singing happy birthday to me)

On Monday I think my life may have been forever changed. I went to BEYONCÉ!! Not only was it possibly the best concert of my life, but it was also my 16th birthday (both two milestones). B was absolutely amazing. I actually could have DIED. I have never seen that amazing of a performer on stage. I don't think I have ever been as inspired as much as when I watch her. Not only is she too gorgeous for words, but she's a good person. She gives back to the community and is all for female empowerment. She realizes the power she has and is using it to better the world. Oh my God! July 13th, 2009 will, most defiantly, go down as one of the best nights of my life. Mia, Lili, Nicky, Lucie and Jonathan went and it only would have been more perfect if Bri was there. The show was absolutely incredible. At the end she sang happy birthday and I nearly fainted! I actually fell back. There were so many parts in the show where I was nearly in tears (but I didn't want to ruin my makeup). I don't think I have ever screamed SO much in the course of three hours. Beyoncé is actually my hero. I will support her till the end. I LOVE YOU B!!!

PS. At the end of her concert when she thanked the crew and band and the fans she said she gives "100%". SHE GIVES FAR MORE THAN 100% , SHE POURS HER HEART AND SOUL INTO EVERYTHING SHE DOES.

Single Ladies

We saw Henry, Jessie and Charlotte before the concert at the souvenir stand

Satie and Plath: The Perfect Pair

There is something so fitting about listening to Satie while reading Sylvia Plath. I don't know exactly what it is. To me, Satie carries some haunting, almost eerie, mysterious tones throughout his compositions. And I absolutely love, love, loooove them. I guess they keep me listening. Just like Plath does with her writing. Both keep me thoroughly involved and interested. There's just something so dark about his music...I can't really put my finger on it. It also reminds me of The Brontes out walking on the moors all alone in Haworth. Gnossienne nº3, in particular, reminds me of Jane Eyre.

LA Day

1. Went to the M.O.J.T. with Nicky. It was her first time and my second, I think she enjoyed herself. She got this awesome bracelet and necklace, both of which are quite awesome. When we went up to the Russian tea room there were these MAJOR asshole college pretentious types. One of them blatantly looked at me and was like fucking snickering to his friend. Oh God and he was reading the Tempest––––UGH. SUCH an asshole––but whatever.

2. Went to Hotcakes (SO good!!), got vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, red velvet, and toffee.

3. Organized my room (somewhat. Need to unpack and CLEAN!

4. FUCK. I need to get my permit!

5. Lili came over and hung out with me and Pickle. We ordered Thai Taste (so damn good).

6. Shit I am so tired and still on NY time. Going to bed.
